Dr Nafisa Islam receives RISE internal grant 2023
In the third Internal Research Grant awarded, in an effort to showcase innovative research projects and enhance collaboration with the industry, BUET faculty members were awarded research grants totalling Tk2 crore. Oneof the grant awardees was Dr Nafisa Islam (PI) with Dr Shoeb Ahmed (as co-PI)

Dr. Shoeb Ahmed (PI) and Dr Nafisa Islam (Co-PI) Receive First Ever Internal Grant at BUET
​
BUET under the newly formed, institute for research (RISE) has recently declared the first ever internal research grant (Total fund 2 crore BDT) for faculty members to enhance research activities. Only 10 projects were funded from 45 submissions and each proposal was blindly reviewed by 3 reviewers from home and abroad. The joint project of Dr Nafisa Islam and Dr Shoeb Ahmed was selected for their research proposal on "novel photocatalysis based virus inactivation". Their collaborator Dr Nirupam Aich (UBuffalo, USA) is a key partner of this project.

Dr. Nafisa Islam Receives the 2020 OWSD EARLY CAREER FELLOWSHIP AWARD

Dr. Nafisa Islam is one of only 23 women scientists in the world who have been selected this year for the prestigious OWSD Early Career fellowship programme. This is the first time that a faculty member from BUET has received this award. Dr. Islam will receive USD 50,000 to lead a research project at the Department. Funding for the fellowship is generously provided by Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC).

Currently, she is developing a product for accelerated wound healing that is extracted using green technologies from the waste of marine industries.
Poster by group is runner up at AICHE 2020
ASC 2020 - VIRTUAL UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT POSTER COMPETITION
A team from BUET comprising Ishmamul Hoque Sadab and Zaki Alam Pushan from Chemical Engineering department has secured runners up position in “Annual Student Conference Undergraduate Poster Competition, AIChE 2020"- The Biggest Global Platform for the Chemical Engineering Students. Their category was “Food, Pharmaceutical & Biotechnology”. Dr. Nafisa Islam, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering, BUET, supervised the research project. The team presented their research project in front of the renowned judges from top ranked Universities in the world. They have won their glorious place by defeating top 20 teams from different prestigious universities. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE TEAM!

Poster by group members wins Gold Award
A team from BUET comprising Mehnaj Tabassum, Mahdia Mahmud and Troyee Naha from Chemical Engineering department has secured Gold Award in “Virtual Poster Competition -2020" organized by Bangladesh Research and Innovation Society (BRIS). The team presented their research project in front of the renowned judges from top ranked Universities in the world. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE TEAM!

Group members form "Team Eutectic" and win First Place in "Karyaneeti"
Mehnaj Tabassum, Mahdia Mahmud, Fahim Rahman and Troyee Naha from Chemical Engineering department became the winner of "Karyaneeti" organized by AIChE ChES SVNIT, India.
"That was a stormy experience, Kalbaiskahi struck and four of us were under load-shedding and network disruption at the same time".."We were given a list of elements and we had to create a innovative project idea using those within 1.5hour.. we had fun though!" writes Mehnaj Tabassum on her social media page.

Afia Subhani's success in Chem-o-Philia
The AICHE student chapter had tremendous success in the competition Chem-o-Philia arranged by AIChE Ict-Iocb Student Chapter. Among other members our very own Afia Subhani was 10th among many participants. Heartfelt congratulations!
Group members receive two Student Research Grants from RISE, BUET

Two groups (Group 1: Mehnaj Tabassum and Troyee Naha; and Group 2: Mahdia Mahmud and Fahim Rahman) have received the RISE Student Research Grant (Call-ID: S2022-02). They are all completing their Undergraduate Thesis under the supervision of Dr Nafisa Islam.
We thank RISE, BUET for the opportunity, and wish the students best of luck in implementation of the grant.
